Occupying a pivotal site adjacent to the new Elizabeth Line station at Abbey Wood, Abbey Place is a catalyst for change at the heart of South East London’s regeneration corridor.

Comprising two striking towers of 13 and 21 storeys, the development introduces a distinctive architectural presence and delivers a dynamic mix of residential and retail uses.

The buildings frame a shared podium garden for residents, while active ground-floor frontages contribute to a more vibrant and accessible public realm.

Abbey Place provides 245 homes across a range of one- to three-bedroom apartments, blending 173 shared ownership units with 72 Build-to-Rent homes. The scheme is rooted in principles of sustainability and quality, with high energy-efficiency standards, natural ventilation, underfloor heating, and exposed concrete ceilings designed to enhance thermal performance and passive cooling.

Internally, apartments benefit from generous layouts, 2.6-metre ceiling heights, and open-plan living spaces. A series of communal terraces, including rooftop gardens with far-reaching city views, encourage a sense of community and wellbeing.

Shared lounges and amenity spaces further support interaction among residents, while the inclusion of retail units at ground level brings life and convenience to the street.

LRA Retinue was responsible for the technical design and construction stages, working closely with contractor JJ Rhatigan and design architect Shed KM to ensure the successful delivery of the scheme.

Their collaboration helped translate the original design vision into a built reality - combining architectural intent with construction rigour and attention to detail.

As a gateway to Abbey Wood’s transformation, Abbey Place stands as a benchmark for future development. It supports the wider Thamesmead and South East London regeneration agenda, delivering an exceptionally high proportion of affordable housing—around 70 to 75 percent—and reinforcing the area’s transition into a more connected, sustainable, and inclusive neighbourhood.
